Wanderlust

Wanderlust: a strong innate impulse or desire to travel the world.

I have always had this childish dream of one day traveling the world and visiting many different countries. This sense of restless wanderlust is continually with me. I have never quite understood why I constantly want to go somewhere new and be somewhere different. It is almost like my heart is longing to find a place where I can be at peace.

I came across a quote that I feel summarizes these feelings into one sentence: “The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can’t supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.” -C.S. Lewis

This earth is not my home. The only place that will truly quiet my heart’s desire is in the arms of Jesus. It is fine to enjoy the blessings that God has given me, but I must first remember Who the blessings came from. I must remember that all good things come from my heavenly Father (: I cannot waste my life searching for things to “satisfy” my soul when I have already found Him! He will continually be with me and will fulfill EVERY need I could possibly have. I will always have a little bit of wanderlust inside of me, but as a Christian I know that this world can’t compare to what lies ahead. My heart longs for the day when I see My Savior face to face! Until then, I will enjoy this world that He has made for me. I will travel the globe and stand in awe of the mighty works of His hand. I will see a little more of His beauty everyday through His creation. But most importantly, I will eagerly await the day when I will spend eternity in heaven and be filled with everlasting peace and joy!

“Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.”

Missionary?

A few weeks ago, I went to a church in West Virginia that had invited me and my summer staff team to fellowship with them. As the pastor came up to speak, he welcomed all of the newcomers and then proceeded to introduce me and my team. He looks out to the congregation and points to us and says, “I just wanna give a big welcome to these missionaries that have come to worship with us the morning.” The moment the word “missionary” came out of his mouth, I instantly felt very out of place. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t feel worthy to be called a missionary. I certainly haven’t been called to be a missionary…. or have I? I sat there stunned in my seat. The sermon hadn’t even begun and I was already convicted.

If we are Christians- we are all called to be “missionaries” wherever the Lord places us. We must seek to proclaim God’s love and share His joy with the people around us. One song that I have been singing a lot at camp this summer is “We Are.” I’m just gonna put the lyrics on here. That’s really all that needs to be said.

“Every secret, every shame

Every fear, every pain

Live inside the dark

But that’s not who we are

We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper, lift your head

We were meant for more than this

Fight the shadows conquer death

Make the most of the time we have left

We are the light of the world

We are the city on a hill

We are the light of the world

We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light of the world

We are the city on a hill

We are the light of the world

We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

Let the light shine, let the light shine

We are called to the spread the news

Tell the world the simple truth

Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in His Name

So let His love break through

We are the light of the world

We are the city on a hill

We are the light of the world

We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine

We are the light

We are the light

We are the light

So let Your light shine brighter

We are the light

We are the light

We are the light

Jesus

You are the light

You are the light

You are the light

We will lift You higher

Shine shine shine”
